Wind Energy

Can Wind Energy Work for You?

Wind turbines are a cost-effective method of producing electricity provided you have an appropriate site. The wind in housing estates or near trees and buildings has excessive turbulence which prevents a wind turbine from working effectively. Bolting one onto the wall of your house is utter nonsense, though some companies make elaborate claims for such a system.

Systems can either be off-grid, powering batteries which provide electricity to your house via an inverter, or grid-tied, where the turbine feeds electricity into the grid. Announced on the 26/02/09 the feed-in tariff for electricity from micro renewables such as wind turbines like ours is set at 19 cent per kWh for the first 4000 domestic installations in Ireland.

Turbotricity Turbines

Our sister company Turbotricity produces a “downwind” 2.5Kw wind turbine designed specifically for Irish Atlantic conditions. The turbine faces downwind, eliminating the need for a tail fin, optimizing output and ensuring that blades can never bend in to strike the mast.

Designed by an Irish company for Irish conditions and using high quality components chosen specifically for the task these rugged turbines are built to last! For high wind sites, or coastal locations, these turbines will provide a long lasting, reliable power source.

Hydraulic Lift Towers

Manufactured specifically for the Turbotricity range of turbines, these towers are extremely well built and are produced to a very high standard, giving years of maintenance free use. Constructed in 5 sections, the tower is raised and lowered by the use of a Hydraulic Ram and Compressor (sold separately form the tower kit) and can be used by both installers and DIY enthusiasts. The concrete base required to support this tower is 1m x 1m x 1.2m deep and uses 40 Newton concrete mix. The tower is 9.5m high to the centre of the rotor, giving an overall height to the blade tip of 11m.

Hydro Electric Power from your Stream

The Stream Engine employs a brushless, permanent magnet alternator which is adjustable, enabling the user to match turbine output to the electrical load. It has a high efficiency alternator and is capable of outputs over 1 kilowatt (kW). It is equipped with a rugged bronze turgo wheel and universal tapered nozzles (adaptable to produce a jet size from 3mm to 25mm. The entire system is made of non-corrosive alloys for long life and durability. This machine can produce power from heads as low as 3 metres (10 feet) to over 100 metres.
